What Is DNS Setting On Smart TV?

A DNS (Domain Name Server) is a gateway to the Internet. They convert easy to remember domain names into IP address. Think about the contacts app on your phone which converts into actual phone numbers when you’re calling someone.
The DNS settings allow you to change the DNS addresses so your device can communicate to a specified server rather than to your local Internet provider server. Often this is done when you want your TV to use a Smart DNS service to access TV channel apps.
How Do I Change The DNS On My Toshiba TV?
1. Open Settings
2. Go to Network and Network Setup
3. Select Advanced Network Setup
4. Select DNS Setup
5. Set Auto Setup to OFF!
6. Enter your DNS servers as Primary and Secondary DNS.
7. Exit Setup
8. Restart your TV.
Note: Below is the graphic instructions:

Registering Your IP Address
If you’re using a Smart DNS service, you will now need to register your IP address. Just login into your service provider’s website and do the necessary.
For Smart DNS Proxy service users, please login into your Account and click on Activate next to IP activation.

If you’ve activated your IP address successfully and you have configured your computer to use the DNS address, you will see green checkmarks next to DNS Setup and IP activation.

Once you’ve registered your IP address, you should now be able to access TV apps on your TV.
Toshiba TV Not Connecting To the Internet
You may need to restart your Internet router and TV. This often clears the problem with the connection. If you’re still having problems, please check on the IP/DNS settings on your TV and ensure they are entered correctly.
Failing that, the IP/DNS addresses you’ve entered no longer work and you will need to contact your service provider to solve this.
How To Watch Geo-Blocked TV On Toshiba Smart TV?
If you’re not in the country where the app was made available, you will be blocked from accessing it.
To bypass this restriction, you can use a Smart DNS service.
How Do I Setup A VPN On My Toshiba TV?
Generally, Smart TVs do not support VPN service.
However, if you still want to use a VPN service for your TV, I would suggest you get a second router and configure our VPN service on it. This method would leave you with your existing network which would be your local ISP and then a second router that would route your traffic via the VPN network. You would presumably then connect your TV to the VPN network.
Note: Using a single router solution is not recommended. It can be done, but the problem is that if there are any problems or issues with it, you have lost your connection to the Internet. If you set up a VPN on a secondary router, then any issues with the VPN setup will not impact your local internet connection.
For more information on the setup, please contact a VPN service provider and they’ll be able to assist you further.
Conclusion
Changing DNS setting on your TV is pretty much straightforward forward but if you don’t see such an option, most likely your TV doesn’t support such a feature. To confirm this, you can check your TV’s manual and/or contact the TV manufacturer.
