Since 2017, BBC has been enforcing users to register for an account before they can watch programmes on their network.
In this post, I’ll guide on how you can register for a BBC iPlayer account, download their app on your mobile device(s) and provide answer to the frequently asked questions.
How To Register To Watch BBC iPlayer Programmes?
To register, go to BBC account registration page and choose you’re 16 or over.
Next, enter your Date Of birth and click on Continue.
Now, enter your email address, password that you would like to register with BBC. Please ensure you’ve chosen United Kingdom as your country and you are free to use any UK based postcode, for example, E17 3AA.
Once you’ve entered your details, click on Register.
Finally, click on No, Thanks if you don’t want to receive newsletters from BBC and click on Continue to complete the registration.
That’s it! Don’t forget to verify your email and you can now access BBC iPlayer Programmes.
Why Do You Have To Register To Watch BBC iPlayer?
BBC requires all users to register for a free account before you can watch their programmes. This is to track the programmes you’ve watched so they can display a personalised video list in your account.
How To Watch BBC iPlayer Without Licence?
When you try and access iPlayer for the first time, you will be asked if you have an active TV License or not, if you state that you do not have a license, you will not be able to access any media on the iPlayer.
When you see the screen above, click on I have a TV License. Watch Now and you should be able to watch their programmes.

Please note if your Play Store (Android) & iTunes (iOS) account is not linked to the UK region, you will not be able to download BBC iPlayer app.
This is because BBC iPlayer app is locked to the UK region only and it’s not made available to the non-UK store.

If you’re still having problems downloading the BBC iPlayer app, you can just install Google Chrome app on your device and access the TV site of your choice.
If the TV site is still forcing/redirecting to download their app, please set your browser to request for a Desktop site and access it again.
How Do I get BBC iPlayer On My Samsung Smart TV?
By default, all UK TV apps including BBC iPlayer are installed in your Samsung Smart TV which you can access it via the Smart Hub screen.
If you don’t see them, most likely your TV’s region is set to non UK. To resolve this, please change the TV’s region to the UK.
How To Watch BBC iPlayer In USA (Outside UK)
If you’re not in the UK, you can still watch BBC iPlayer in the USA or anywhere in the world. However, you will need to set up a Smart DNS service so you can bypass the region restrictions.
